Library: Library Charges

Our professional team of staff offer a wide range of services to all students and staff at QM and visitors. From help with joining and borrowing; enquiry service, interlibrary loans and photocopying as well as subject support from Liaison Librarians.

How to pay

Charges can be paid at the LRC Service Desk, using your Smartcard. You can also make fixed payments via the Library Catalogue or by using the Paypal option below.  Please do not overpay if you use this option.  Alternatively, our Finance Office can take payment over the phone.

Fines on standard loans

The following fines are currently levied for overdue loans:

21 day loans - 20p per item per day

7 day loans - 50p per item per day

1 day loans (books) - £3 per day per item

1 day loans (DVDs) - £3 per item per day (All Discs/videos are charged individually, including those in a set)

Equipment loans (excluding Student Services equipment) - £1 a day


Other charges

SPSS software loan - £10 fee plus £20 refundable deposit.  Late return - £1 a day.

There are also charges for self financing interlibrary loans and renewals.

Billing and replacement cost charges

Failure to return or renew overdue loans will result in the borrower being invoiced for the cost of replacement. There is currently a minimum charge of £20.00 per item plus a billing fee.  The billing fee is the made up of a £2 processing charge and the maximum overdue fine on the item.

The borrower will still be liable for the billing fee if the item is returned. Billing fees are detailed below.

21 day loan - billed when 35 days overdue - £8 + replacement cost

7 day loan - billed when 31 days overdue - £12 + replacement cost

1 day loan (books)- billed when 6 days overdue - £17 + replacement cost

1 day loan (DVDs) - billed when 25 days overdue - £17 + replacement cost

Equipment loans - billed when 21 days overdue - £30 + replacement cost
