How to use the Library: Opening Hours

Our professional team of staff offer a wide range of services to all QMU students, staff and visitors. From help with joining and borrowing; enquiry service, interlibrary loans and photocopying as well as subject support from Liaison Librarians.

Opening hours

The Learning Resource Centre is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Coronavirus updates – Helpdesk Customers

From 5pm on Tuesday 24th March 2020 the LRC will be closed to all. Helpdesk staff will be available via email only. For Library queries, please contact for all other enquiries please contact

The University is continuing to monitor closely and follow healthcare and government advice from Health Protection Scotland.

Our revised working hours in place are as follows:  Monday – Friday 8am-7pm.

Our Liaison Librarians are also working from home but available to help students with any queries they might have via email.

We also have a dedicated page on the main QMU website with FAQ’s which are continually being updated:

Out with these times QMU students and staff only will be able to carry on using the LRC for study and self-service. 

If the Fire Alarm sounds whilst you are in the LRC, go to the nearest fire exit. You must then go to our closest Assembly Point and wait for further instructions. Do NOT remain in the building.

Any items that require to be issued by staff cannot be borrowed during non-staffed hours – e.g. DVDs, items on hold or inter-library loans. All queries should be directed to, where they will be answered as soon as possible during the next working day.

If you have any problems relating to access during the non-staffed hours, or if the alarm sounds as you enter/exit the LRC, please see the Security staff at main reception.

Please remember that off-campus access to all electronic resources is available through the Remote Desktop service.
