How to use the Library: Opening Hours

Our professional team of staff offer a wide range of services to all QMU students, staff and visitors. From help with joining and borrowing; enquiry service, interlibrary loans and photocopying as well as subject support from Liaison Librarians.

Opening hours

The LRC is open between 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, however all internal rooms including the group study rooms, are closed after 9pm. This is to facilitate cleaning and ventilation. Access to the book stacks at both ends of the LRC continues 24/7.

LRC Coronavirus update – 28th January:

Due to recent changes to the pandemic response regulations by the Scottish Government, we are able to continue to remove some of the restrictions on the use of the Learning Resource Centre space which were put in place in earlier in the pandemic.

Face coverings should continue to be worn when moving around the LRC and the rest of the University. Staff and students are encouraged to sanitise hands regularly.

For Library queries, please contact LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk for all other enquiries Assist@qmu.ac.uk

New for 2021, we have an online form that can be used to log a query with the team, using this link

Our physical Helpdesk based in the LRC is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday (semester time only).

Our Liaison Librarians continue to work mainly from home, are contactable via email and will provide sessions for staff and students via MS Teams or Collaborate. Staff of the Effective Learning Service also continue to work from home and offer their services in a similar manner.

The University is continuing to monitor closely and follow healthcare and government advice from Health Protection Scotland. There is a dedicated page on the main QMU website with FAQ’s which are continually being updated:  https://www.qmu.ac.uk/coronavirus/

If the Fire Alarm sounds whilst you are in the LRC, go to the nearest fire exit. You must then go to our closest Assembly Point and wait for further instructions. Do NOT remain in the building.

Any items that require issuing by staff cannot be borrowed during non-staffed hours – e.g. DVDs, or inter-library loans. All queries should be directed to LRChelp@qmu.ac.uk, where they will be answered as soon as possible during the next working day.

If you have any problems relating to access during the non-staffed hours, or if the alarm sounds as you enter/exit the LRC, please see the Security staff at main reception.
