Coronavirus updates – LRC
The Learning Resource Centre is open to QMU staff and students from 8am to 9pm every day. While the book stock and a limited number of terminals will be accessible, all the internal rooms are currently closed. The exception to this are rooms 1161 & 1163 which are available to academic staff for lecture capture recording. These rooms must be booked in the usual way via the room booking system. Postgraduate room 1168 is also accessible to Postgraduate students during LRC opening periods (no booking required).
The Helpdesk is staffed 10am to 2pm weekdays and 1-3pm at the weekends at the physical desk. In addition, Helpdesk staff will be available via email (LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk / Assist@qmu.ac.uk) between the hours of 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 11-4pm at the weekend.
Our Liaison Librarians continue to work from home, are contactable via email and will provide sessions for staff and students via MS Teams or Collaborate. Staff of the Effective Learning Service also continue to work from home and offer their services in a similar manner.
The University is continuing to monitor closely and follow healthcare and government advice from Health Protection Scotland.

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Helpdesk is operating on a blended model of support currently. The above hours indicate when the Helpdesk is physically staffed. Outwith these hours we will be available via email at either LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk (library queries) or Assist@qmu.ac.uk (other queries) at the following times - Monday to Friday 8am-7pm and Saturday and Sunday 11am-4pm.
Out with these times QMU students and staff only will be able to carry on using the LRC for study and self-service from 8am-9pm.
If the Fire Alarm sounds whilst you are in the LRC, go to the nearest fire exit. You must then go to our closest Assembly Point and wait for further instructions. Do NOT remain in the building.
Any items that require to be issued by staff cannot be borrowed during non-staffed hours – e.g. DVDs, items on hold or inter-library loans. All queries should be directed to LRChelp@qmu.ac.uk, where they will be answered as soon as possible during the next working day.
If you have any problems relating to access during the non-staffed hours, or if the alarm sounds as you enter/exit the LRC, please see the Security staff at main reception.
Please remember that off-campus access to all electronic resources is available through the Remote Desktop service.
