How to use the Library: Students from other Universities

Our professional team of staff offer a wide range of services to all QMU students, staff and visitors. From help with joining and borrowing; enquiry service, interlibrary loans and photocopying as well as subject support from Liaison Librarians.

How to join

Students and Staff from other UK and some R.O.I universities can apply to join the LRC if they are a member of the SCONUL Access Scheme.

Once their home university has approved their membership they should apply to be an External Borrower using the External Borrower Form. When accepted we will request a copy of their SCONUL membership confirmation email.

Bring this and your student/staff card to the LRC and we will create a library account for you.

Please note:  Applications may take several days to process and you may not be able to borrow immediately. Full-time undergraduates are only entitled to access for reference purposes and are not required to apply.

External Borrower Application Form

Please complete this form to apply to join library as External Borrower / SCONUL member.

What can I borrow?

You can borrow 6 items from the

7 Day Loan or 21 Day Loan category

Some of our resources are restricted to current matriculated students and staff.

Therefore, external membership does not allow:

  • access to online resources e.g. ebooks, ejournals and databases
  • access to DVDs and Videos
  • access to Interlibrary Loans
  • the ability to reserve items

What else can I do?

Opening Times

External borrowers can access the library Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm.
