Library: QMU Students and Staff

Our professional team of staff offer a wide range of services to all students and staff at QM and visitors. From help with joining and borrowing; enquiry service, interlibrary loans and photocopying as well as subject support from Liaison Librarians.

How to join

All staff and students are entitled to use the LRC.

When joining Queen Margaret University you are issued with a Matriculation card: this card is used to gain access to the LRC and borrow from us. After you have matriculated, you are automatically registered to borrow from the library. Cards are not transferable.

Your card should be brought on all visits to the Library: books are not usually issued without it.

How long can I keep them?

Most of our books can be loaned for 21 DAYS.  However, we have other loan periods for some items in the LRC.  They can be identified by the tape and labels on the book spine.

YELLOW TAPE is a 7 DAY LOAN.  This can be renewed.

BLUE TAPE is a 1 DAY LOAN and weekend loan from Friday to Monday.  These cannot be renewed.

RED LABEL is a REFERENCE ONLY item. For use in LRC only.

Audio Visual (AV) items

DVD 1 DAY LOAN - this is a collection of Films that you will find next to the Ad-Hoc Group Study room or on the catalogue.  Bring the box to the desk. You can borrow these for the weekend too. They cannot be renewed.

AV 7 DAY LOAN - Standalone CDs and DVDs that are found in the main library stock. You may need to ask for the disc at the desk.

AV 21 DAY LOAN - CDs and DVDs that accompany books.  These discs are found beside the books.

In addition we have a couple of laptops for 1 DAY or weekend loan.  Please ask for these at the LRC Service Desk.
