Teaching Resources and Support: Information for HEP online programmes

This guide provides information about where to find teaching materials, through QMU Library subscriptions and open licensing.

Course design and delivery for HEP online programmes is different to the standard process for QMU taught programmes.

Each QMU Online module is developed over a 16-week cycle. This guide provides instructions for module authors (MAs) to complete their Talis Resource List alongside authoring module content.

Module content

  • Week 0: at the beginning of the module development cycle, contact your subject librarian to ensure a Talis Resource List is created and that you (and any co-authors) are added as list editor(s).

  • Weeks 0-3 Module Planning: during the module planning stage, you should:

    • Identify resources using the QMU library

    • If there are ebooks you need the Library to purchase, chapters of print books that need to be scanned, or paywalled journal articles the library does not have subscriptions to that you need the library to pay for copyright cleared versions of, contact your subject librarian and QMU CLA Scanning (CLAScanning@qmu.ac.uk) as soon as possible.

    • Add resources to your Module Map template (in SharePoint).

  • Weeks 0-6 Resource List Development:

    • Add resources to your Talis list using the bookmarking tool or by manually adding items.

    • Each time you update the content on your list, click publish and request that the librarian reviews the newly added materials.

    • During the review process the librarian checks URLs and availability of online resources and may change details such as weblinks. After the librarian has have reviewed the list items, you will be sent a review email via the Talis system, noting what changes have been made and what recommendations there are for you to change - for example, if the material is not accessible or available, you may need to find an alternative resource to use.

  • Weeks 3-11 Content Development:

    • After the module planning stage, you will begin to author your content in SharePoint and incorporate resources into the design of weekly activities. As content is finalised and delivered to TEL, it will be built into Canvas.

    • It is crucial that the resources referred to in the module content match with your Talis list (this includes URLs). Therefore, if any resource changes need to be made to finalised content, please contact TEL to request this.

  • Weeks 6-11 Final Review and Alterations:

    • You should have added all the resources you intend to use to your Talis list by Week 6 of the development cycle. This is to allow time for all resources to be reviewed, and any subsequent alterations to be made to the list and reflected in the module content.

  • Week 11 Hard-stop deadline: by the hard-stop deadline all final resource changes must have been made to the Talis list and Canvas module, ahead of the external review.

  • Prior to module launch: TEL embeds the Talis list into the live module in Canvas.
