Reference manager tools are helpful for you to save information about the sources you are using for your work. Many of them offer you the ability to export references directly into your work, formatted with your chosen reference style. You may also be able to make use of word processing plugins, allowing you to cite as you write. Below is information about the reference managers supported by QMU. Your librarian is able to provide you with support on these resources.
Please note: these tools have been selected for their usability, functionality and compatibility with QMU's IT systems. They are interoperable with as many different hardware and software tools as possible, but in some instances (e.g. Chromebooks) there are limitations around their functionality.
Reference management software is a tool that allows you to organise your references and export citations and reference lists quickly and easily. At QMU we support two kinds of reference management software: EndNote and Mendeley. We are also supporting RefWorks for one final year for existing users only (2021/22).
About Mendeley reference manager
You can log in to EndNote Web using your QMU login details and use the browser version of the tool online.
You can also download the desktop software onto your own device following the steps below.
1. Click the link below to install the software on your own device - select the right one for the type of device you are using
2. Please email Assist@qmu.ac.uk for the serial number and product key to allow you to fully install EndNote
Note: QMU will no longer be subscribing to RefWorks after the academic year 2021/22. Please do not sign up to RefWorks if you will not be completing your studies within this academic year. Any records you do not export from RefWorks before we stop using the service will be lost. Please use EndNote or Mendeley instead.
