Induction: Online Resources

Library Guide for New Students

Accessing resources online

vmware logoTo avoid having to keep logging in to different database, ebook and journal websites while you’re off campus, you can log in using Remote Access, which makes websites think you’re logging in from on campus, and therefore know you have a university login to access the resources.

To find out how to do this, go to Remote Access on the QMU IT Services webpages, where you can download the desktop app or use remote access via your internet browser. You will need to read the Remote Access Guide to set it up. Method 2: VMware Horizon Client, is recommended rather than the browser method, because it offers better performance.

Subject Guides

There is a subject guide for every programme at QMU, produced and updated regularly by our Liaison Librarians. Each guide highlights books, journals, databases and websites that you will find useful during your studies. We strongly recommend having a look at the subject guide for your area to find out which are the best subject databases to be searching, along with a wide range of other useful resources. As well as the link below, you'll find a link to subject guides within your Canvas space.

There's also a guide to help students who are learning at a distance from campus:

Resource Lists

Your tutors may use Talis Resource Lists to recommend reading for your modules.

To view these, check Canvas for your module and look for a Resource List link on the left hand menu or within each week's materials.

Or, search for the module code or title on the QMU Talis Resource Lists home page or using the search box below.
