We've listed details about some useful external services below.
Please also view the QMU Library guide for more details about services available to QMU students and staff - the section on Using Other Libraries includes additional information on how to access local, national and international resources.
The LRC is part of an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) network that allows us to borrow material from other libraries in the UK should we not have access to these items in our own library. Staff and students can request material necessary for their research and coursework via our ILL service.
More information about this service is available here.
eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions. Please note that to use this service, you must have first logged in to eduroam at your home institution.
SCONUL Access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme. The scheme covers most of the university libraries in the UK and Ireland.
If you are:
and your university or college is a member of the scheme, you may be able to borrow from other college or university libraries.
QMU is a member of the scheme. You can find out more about the scheme and complete the online form to join at the SCONUL Access website.
The National Library of Scotland can be used for reference purposes only, as it is not a lending library. You can register for a library card to gain access to the reading rooms (please note that you are required to take proof of identification with you on your first visit). Before visiting the library, you should also consult the NLS catalogue and request any materials that you would like to access. The NLS also has a wide range of digital resources that you can access online.
Jisc Library Hub Discover exposes rare and unique research material by bringing together the catalogues of major UK and Irish libraries.
In a single search you can discover the holdings of the UK’s National Libraries (including the British Library), many university libraries, and specialist research libraries. This new service replaces Copac and SUNCAT, providing access to a growing range of library catalogues, with a new interface style and updated search facilities.
