Online Learning at QMU: IT, passwords and remote access

This guide is designed to support students on QMU programmes who study entirely or mainly online. It provides information about how to access library resources online, and other important information relating to the library and study skills.

If you need help with any aspect of IT or technology at QMU, your first contact should be with the Helpdesk by emailing Helpdesk@qmu.ac.uk

Staff will respond to your enquiry during opening hours.

Matriculation

To be able to access QMU's online resources, you must complete the matriculation (registration) process. You will be given a username to use throughout your studies and a password that you will need to reset periodically.

QMU username and password

Your username to access QMU IT systems is the same as your matriculation number. Your password is the one which you received when you matriculated.

Once you have received your password, you need to register with the Self Service Password Reset(SSPR), to ensure you can manage your own passwords.

You can register for SSPR using this link:

https://aka.ms/ssprsetup

Sign in using your @qmu.ac.uk email address and password. You can then set up authentication to a phone, secondary email address or security questions. Once you are registered, whenever you are prompted to change, or you have forgotten your password, you can reset your own password by visiting:

passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/

It is recommended that you bookmark the above links for ease of access.

Remote access

The QMU Remote Desktop service is available to all staff and students who require simple, fast access to our standard desktop environment, exactly as presented on our campus computers. The benefit of using remote desktop is that you do not need to individually log in to ebook, journal or database platforms and will already be logged into them so access is more straightforward.

To use remote access, follow the links and instructions on the QMU IT webpage.
