Institute for Global Health and Development: Inter-Library loans

Subject Guide

About the service

QMU Library Services are part of an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) network that allows us to borrow material from the British Library and other libraries in the UK, should we not own or have access to these items in our own library.

Staff and students can request material necessary for their research and coursework via our ILL service. Before requesting, please bear in mind that some ILL requests might take some time to fulfill, especially for obscure titles. You will be informed if there will be a delay with your request.

You can contact our ILL service at ILLS@qmu.ac.uk

You may also find useful information on how to obtain material we do not hold at Using Other Libraries

Who can use the service?

  • Academic staff
  • Postgraduate students
  • Undergraduate students

Academic staff  - From 1st August 2017 ILL requests made by academic staff will be chargeable. Departments will be invoiced on a monthly basis.

Postgraduate students - From 1st August 2017 postgraduates will be allowed 5 free requests. Once these have been used, further requests will be payable and charges made to their Library account.

Undergraduate students - From 1st August 2017 3rd and 4th year undergraduates will be allowed 3 free requests. Once these have been used further requests will be payable and charges made to their Library account.

3rd and 4th Year undergraduate students must have their ILL requests authorised by their course tutor. 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students are not expected to have need of the service as library collections should be sufficient for their needs. If however a student feels that an item QMU Library does not hold then they are free to apply for a chargeable ILL request.

If undergraduates do decide to request a chargeable ILL request then authorisation is not required.
